How the Lizard Got Back Her Legs by Ilana Waters is a fable of sorts. It’s a mixture of Greek tale, fairy tale, moral, and pure story. It’s meant for middle grade readers but is pertinent for anyone.
Right from the start, the voice is wonderful. It’s playful and fun but also definitely a fable with things coming in threes and magic and gods. The lizard’s legs were taken away by the gods, and she wants them back. So she does favors for three gods who are at their wits end. At first everything felt too easy for her, but by the third trial there was a definite challenge and I was rooting for her. It’s a fun little read and makes for a different yet comfortable tale.
I received this book from the author for review.
